Part-Time of Full-Time Home Business. What is Right for You?
You know you want a work at home business, but it is not always so clear to know whether or not you should work full-time or part-time.  Should you take a giant leap from full-time job to full-time business or should you test the waters first and start a part-time business while continuing to earn a regular pay check from your day job?

Consider the type of life you live, your family responsibilities and your financial circumstances. A single parent with two kids to feed and a mortgage has less money to gamble with than does a single person with no dependants and plenty of money in the bank.

There is a positive and a negative side to both of these equally viable options. Part-time or full-time is a question that only you can answer after carefully evaluating both sides …

Part-Time Business

If you start an online part-time home based business, you will not be available as many hours as you would if you chose to go full-time and this could cost you customers. You will also earn less money because you are working at your work at home Internet business less often. The other downside is that you may not be viewed in as high a regard as other enterprising individuals because you are a part-time entrepreneur.

On the other hand, you can take more chances with your work at home online business because you do not have to worry about losing income due to the fact that you still have your day job to fall back on. If you run a home business part-time you can save the money you earn from the business and then when you decide to go part-time you can fund your own venture.

A part-time business might appeal especially to people who do not need to work full-time or have retired and want to do something from the comfort of their own homes that can bring in some extra money.

Full-Time Business

It’s nearly impossible to work a full-time job and run a full-time business at the same time. For this reason, once you start a full-time home-based business you must wave goodbye to your job. This can be frightening and it is a very big financial risk. This also means that you will have to bid farewell to the health plan you enjoyed while you were working for someone else.

Leading business expert Steve Strauss has this to say about the risks involved with starting a new business, “Great entrepreneurs have many traits in common; chief among them is a willingness to take a risk. Not a blind risk mind you, but a calculated, prudent, honest risk.”

A full-time business often involves working more hours then when you worked at a full-time job, especially in the beginning. This can cause difficulties and conflicts to arise amongst family members and can strain relationships. This can lead to increased stress on the entrepreneur, especially if he or she thought that everyone in the family was being supportive.

However, a full-time home based business opens the door to endless possibility for income and creative opportunities. So bottom-line:  if you have people that depend on you and have current income, don't give that up until your new business is profitable.  It may be difficult to take on both for a while, but keep your head up looking towards the rewards down the road.
